Bean Market’s July subscription featured the Aricha Keble G1, Yirgacheffe from Code Black Coffee Roasters. Code Black’s selected beans are from a mill in the Aricha division of Idido Valley located 8kg northwest of Yirgacheffe town.
DETAILS OF ARICHA KEBLE G1:
The selected beans are from a mill in the Aricha division, Idido Valley located 8km northwest of Yirgacheffe town, Ethiopia. There are two mills in the same region, and the other one is closer to Yirgacheffe town. Code Black chose the Aricha mill because of its unique and intense fruity character.
There are approximately 600 plot farmers in the surrounding zone that delivers their ripe cherries to the Aricha mill. The station has received a grade one classification by the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange because of an outstanding cup profile.

CODE BLACK’S PREFERRED WAY OF PREPARING THE ARICHA YIRGACHEFFE:
- Wet the paper filter to rinse out any paper flavour.
- Place the Kalita wave on top of your scales and place 12 grams into the wave.
- Pour in 40 grams of water- saturate the grounds (cover them thoroughly) and let it ‘bloom’ for 30 seconds.
- In 30 second intervals, then pour in 50, 50, 60 grams of water.
